Welcome from Glenn Rosewall, CEO and MD, BBY Limited
On behalf of BBY Limited, I have great pleasure in welcoming you to our 2008 annual Agriculture,
Cleantechnology and Energy Conference – and our 4th carbon-neutral conference to date.
Energy supply, food shortages and climate change are three of the greatest challenges facing Australia and
the world. BBY aims to provide investment opportunities to reflect these challenges.
High energy prices, concern over greenhouse gas emissions and geo-political uncertainty in oil-producing
regions are all contributing to the increasing demand for alternative energy sources.
The impending age of clean energy requires a transformation of the way we produce electricity and fuel.
A significant increase in alternative energy production will require the widespread adoption of all of the
available technologies – cleaner coal, cleaner diesel, wind, solar and nuclear power are all potential
solutions to the challenge posed by current legacy technologies. New generation Integrated Gasification
Combined Cycle Coal power stations are likely to be widely adopted given they offer up to 30% reductions
in greenhouse emissions per unit of energy. We are fortunate that NSW has an abundance of coal reserves
uniquely suited to IGCC processes.
Another key development this year has been the emergence of the potential conflict between clean energy
and food demand of the developing world. How Australian agriculture and resource companies are uniquely
placed to manage this conflict and capitalise on emerging food requirements and dietary changes in
countries such as India and China is another market opportunity we will highlight today.
Our conference will focus on the opportunities offered by some of Australia’s leading Agriculture,
Cleantechnology and Energy companies. It will highlight the increasing need for environmental sustainability,
energy and food supply certainty and the intense investor interest in the expansion of these sectors.
As always, the BBY team will be on hand to assist you throughout the conference. We are dedicated to
providing BBY clients with the highest levels of service and ensuring clients’ investment, capital and strategic
objectives are achieved.
Thank you for attending and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any investment
choices, opportunities or ideas arising from the conference.

Welcome from Glenn Rosewall,CEO and MD, BBY Limited
On behalf of BBY I have great pleasure in welcoming you to our 2008 Telecommunications, Media and
Technology Conference.
We are in extraordinary times, as we are in a massive deleveraging cycle caused by an unsustainable credit boom.
Financial system crises go through two main phases: containment, when governments try to minimise fallout while
maintaining confidence; and resolution, which involves the actual reconstruction of the broken system. For some time the two elements will overlap, but a sharp global slowdown is unavoidable. That being said, the market is a great discounter and in these times, astute investors seek stocks that have low debt, positive free cash flow, leading market positions, proven management and simple business models.
BBY is well placed to continue assisting you to find those investments; we have a strong, profitable business. Since
I joined in 2004 we have taken a conservative business approach which places us in good stead for the times ahead and ensures we can deliver for our clients.
From our position of relative strength, we continue to focus on opportunities. We believe that the telecommunications, media and technology sectors hold unprecedented opportunities, despite the economic climate, as next generation distribution networks redefine work and leisure pursuits for all Australians. BBY explores several dimensions of these opportunities today, providing insights into their applications for investment in these sectors.
The pervasiveness of TMT has been a defining characteristic of the last century. It is one of the most important factors in shaping the modern world. Twenty years ago few people had ever heard of the internet, let alone used it. Today, the internet has become an indispensable tool for business and personal use. The internet is arguably the locus of telecommunications, media and technology – the point where these three notionally distinct industries converge.
Allied to technological convergences are transforming social, political and economic effects. The intensity and
ubiquity of modern communications has altered the forms and patterns of daily interactions between people across
the globe. For financial markets, interdependency and globalisation have reached new levels, facilitated through TMT networks with information being disseminated and transactions being executed in cyber space.
For businesses large and small, the internet has become central to the corporate brand and engagement with
investors, employees, suppliers and customers. More than any other development of the past decade the internet
breathes new life into the concept of an information economy that is creating new business models in a wide range
of industries.
The growth to date and future success of these industries is closely allied to their ability to deliver productivity growth through innovation. Networking has promoted diffusion of information, content has become multi-form and interactive; the scope of activity has ranged from simplifying routine business tasks to imaginative collaborations,
creative self expression and social interaction.
The ability of long established businesses to deal with this new phenomenon is only part of the story; equally
compelling is the rise of new companies that have harnessed innovation to achieve extraordinary results. At this
year’s TMT conference we present a mix of major corporations redefining their businesses through the creative
exploitation of new technologies, and a cross section of successful industry specialists that have moved from niche
markets to substantive national and international presence.
Thank you for attending and please enjoy the program.

Welcome from Glenn Rosewall, CEO and MD, BBY Limited
On behalf of BBY Limited, I have great pleasure in welcoming you to our 2008 annual Healthcare & Life Sciences Conference.
These are challenging times for investors. Markets have suffered savage declines in the face of the global financial crisis and a slumping global economy.
In the current bear market we have seen healthcare stocks outperform the market as investors favour stocks with defensive earnings. This outperformance is expected to continue over coming months as the economy continues to slow. On the other hand, smaller life sciences companies, which are largely
pre-earnings, have underperformed. However, the indiscriminate
sell-off of the life sciences sector has created attractive buying opportunities: Quality companies with drugs in late stage clinical trials can be bought at compelling prices.
Against this background, the Healthcare & Life Sciences Conference will explore the investment opportunities arising in a sector that has been a quiet achiever. The focus of the conference will be wide-ranging, including companies aimed at supporting healthy communities through the development of safe innovative drugs and those specialising in delivering high quality care and support to the communities in which they operate.
Growing populations and extended life spans will be the drivers for growth in the healthcare & life sciences sector and I urge you to carefully scrutinise the emerging opportunities associated with today’s presenting companies.
As always, the BBY team will be on hand to assist you throughout the conference. They are dedicated to providing BBY clients with the highest service and ensuring clients’ investment, capital and strategic objectives are achieved.
Thank you for attending and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any investment choices, opportunities or ideas arising from the conference.
