Our History
Dating back to 1987, BBY takes its name from a partnership between J.William Burdett, Graham Buckeridge and Peter Young.
In 2004, a new management team lead by Glenn Rosewall was appointed and the business re-named BBY. At that time, BBY was a small player in the Australian market, having a market share position of number 52 and an annual ASX turnover of A$4.48billion.
In early 2005, the new and revitalised BBY first displayed the sort of market insights and corporate support that have since become our foundations for success. BBY was the first securities firm to provide research coverage of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG), which at the time had a market capitalisation of under A$600M. That same year BBY raised around USD$100M for FMG to assist with expansion plans. Today, FMG is a household name, has a market capitalisation of around A$19B and has realised its shareholders outstanding returns.
In 2009, BBY established a partnership with CIMB Group, Malaysia’s second largest financial services provider and the fifth largest in Southeast Asia by total assets (market capitalisation of around US$22B). The partnership has given BBY an increased presence in Asia through CIMB’s operations and client networks across 13 growth economies.
In August 2011, BBY completed the acquisition of the Private Client network of StoneBridge, which signalled the creation of a significant new player in the Australian private client market. The acquisition also meant BBY has a truly national presence, with additional offices in Western Australia (Perth), South Australia (Adelaide) and Queensland (Gold Coast).

Since our re-launch in 2004 as BBY, we have received a few awards of which we are particularly proud.
In 2008, BBY won an International Stevie Award for Best New Financial Product in the International Business Awards for our "Valuation and Momentum Monitor" approach to stock-picking. In 2008 we also won the "Best Corporate Deal of the Year" in The Australian Stockbrokers Foundation Hall of Fame for our capital raisings for Linc Energy, Australia’s leader in Clean Coal Technology.
